Reiki is an alternative therapy that originated in Japan, which promotes stress reduction, relaxation, and healing. It is based on the idea that Ki or "universal life force energy" flows through us, and we are alive because of this life force energy. Reiki is a special kind of Ki Energy that is guided by spiritual consciousness; and because of this, Reiki can never do any harm or ever deplete our energy.
Traditional Usui Tibetan Reiki is one type of Reiki that combines elements of the original Usui Reiki system with additional techniques and symbols from Tibetan Buddhism. This approach to Reiki is based on the teachings of Mikao Usui, who is credited with rediscovering Reiki in the early 20th century.
In Traditional Usui Tibetan Reiki, practitioners use the Usui symbols along with additional symbols and techniques that are said to enhance the flow of Reiki energy and deepen the healing process. This practice typically includes techniques for channeling and directing energy, as well as methods for balancing and harmonizing the body's energy centers (known as chakras) and energy pathways (known as meridians). It is often used to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and support physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being.
During an in-person Reiki session, the practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above the recipient's body, allowing the energy to flow through them, like a conduit into the recipient’s body. The recipient may experience sensations such as warmth, tingling, and/or relaxation.
Distance Reiki (also known as Remote Reiki) is a form of Reiki therapy that is performed without the practitioner and recipient being in the same physical location.
Reiki practitioners believe that energy is not bound by physical distance and can be transmitted over long distances. The practitioner may use techniques such as visualization, symbols, and/or meditation to connect with the recipient and send the healing energy, regardless of where they are located in the world.
Recipients of Distance Reiki often report benefits similar to those experienced during in-person sessions, including deep relaxation, emotional balance, mental clarity, and a greater sense of overall well-being. While the experience may feel different for each person, many are surprised by how connected, supported, and deeply present they feel throughout the session.
This naturally leads to a larger question: How can healing occur when two people are not in the same physical location? To better understand this, it helps to explore the broader principles of energy healing and how practitioners work with the body's subtle energy systems.

Energy healing is a broad term used to describe a variety of holistic practices that work with the body's subtle energy systems to support balance, well-being, and the body's natural capacity for healing. At its core is the understanding that we are more than just a physical body. Our thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and energetic state all influence how we experience health, vitality, and connection.
When energy becomes stagnant, depleted, or out of balance, it can affect us physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Energy healing practices seek to restore harmony within these systems, creating conditions that support greater balance, resilience, and overall well-being.
There are many forms of energy healing, including Reiki, Qigong, Acupuncture, Pranic Healing, Biofield Therapies, breathwork, meditation, and other energy-based modalities. While each approach works differently, they share a common intention: to support the whole person rather than focusing on a single symptom or condition.
Like Reiki, many energy healing modalities can be offered either in person or remotely.
