One of the simplest and most important ways to prepare for a healing session is to give yourself permission to receive.
Many of us spend our lives doing, striving, helping, supporting, and caring for others. Receiving can feel unfamiliar. Yet healing often begins when we allow ourselves to pause, soften, and become receptive to the experience unfolding before us.
This act of permission is not about making something happen. It is about creating space. Space for your body to relax, your mind to settle, and your heart to open. As resistance softens, many people find it easier to connect with a deeper sense of peace, presence, and inner awareness.
Before your session, you may wish to take a few moments to set an intention and quietly affirm your willingness to receive.
"I give myself permission to receive whatever is ready to emerge for my highest good."
From there, simply trust the process. There is nothing you need to do, figure out, or force. Allow yourself to be present with the experience and receive whatever support, insight, healing, or stillness is available to you in that moment.
Taking a few moments to slow down before your session can help you arrive feeling more present, grounded, and receptive to the experience ahead. While it is not required, many people find that a simple meditation and a clear intention create a supportive foundation for their healing journey.
MEDITATE FOR 5-15 MINUTES
A brief meditation can help quiet the mind, release the distractions of the day, and bring your awareness into the present moment. Simply focus on your breath, allow your body to relax, and notice what is present without trying to change it.
The goal is not to achieve a particular state, but rather to create a little space between the demands of everyday life and the sacred time you have set aside for yourself.
SET YOUR INTENTION
An intention is simply an invitation for where you would like your attention to rest during the session. It can be specific or open-ended.
You may arrive with a question, a challenge, an area of your life you would like to explore, or a desire for greater clarity, peace, or healing. You may also choose a simple intention such as:
"I am open to receiving whatever is most needed for my highest good."
There is no right intention and no perfect way to set one. What matters most is your willingness to arrive with openness, curiosity, and trust.
Once your intention is set, allow yourself to release any attachment to a particular outcome. Trust what emerges and let the experience unfold in its own way.
This step is entirely optional, but many people find it helps them transition from the busyness of everyday life into the experience ahead.
Creating a sacred space is less about following a specific ritual and more about setting aside intentional time for yourself. It can be as simple or elaborate as you wish. The goal is to create an environment that feels supportive, calming, and aligned with what you need in the moment.
CHOOSE A QUIET & COMFORTABLE PLACE TO RELAX
Select a space where you feel safe, relaxed, and unlikely to be disturbed. This may be a favorite chair, your bed, a meditation corner, or any place where you can comfortably rest for the duration of your session.
Consider silencing notifications, minimizing distractions, and letting others in your home know that this is your dedicated time for rest, reflection, and self-care.
CLEANSE OR CLEAR THE SPACE
Some people enjoy taking a few moments to intentionally clear the energy of their environment before a session. This might include burning sage, palo santo, or incense, using an essential oil spray, ringing a bell, playing a singing bowl, or simply opening a window and taking a few mindful breaths.
There is no right way to do this. Choose whatever feels meaningful and supportive for you.
CREATE A CALMING ATMOSPHERE
Consider adding simple touches that help you feel relaxed and present.
BLESS OR DEDICATE THE SPACE
If it feels meaningful to you, take a moment to offer a prayer, blessing, or simple intention for the session ahead. This can be as formal or informal as you wish.
You might simply place your hand on your heart and say:
"May this space support whatever is ready to emerge for my highest good."
Or choose words that feel authentic and meaningful to you.
Remember, sacred space is not created by candles, crystals, or rituals alone. It is created through your presence, intention, and willingness to show up for yourself with openness and care.
Preparing yourself before a healing session can help you feel more grounded, present, and receptive to the experience ahead. Think of it as a gentle transition from the demands of everyday life into a dedicated space for rest, reflection, and self-care.
You do not need to do all of the suggestions below. Choose what feels supportive, meaningful, and aligned with your own preferences. The intention is not perfection, it is simply creating a little space to arrive fully.
TAKE A RELAXING BATH OR SHOWER
A warm bath or shower can be a simple yet powerful way to release the stress of the day and prepare your body to receive.
HYDRATE YOUR BODY
Drinking water before your session supports both physical and energetic well-being. You may wish to prepare a glass of water, tea, or another nourishing beverage and take a moment to drink it mindfully.
PERFORM AN ENERGY SWEEP
Gently sweep your hands over your body, starting from your head and moving down to your feet. Visualize clearing away stagnant or heavy energy. Shake your hands out as if releasing this energy into the Earth.
Alternatively, use a cleansing crystal, such as a selenite sword, to similarly sweep your body. Or burn sage or palo santo to lightly waft the smoke over your body, starting at your feet and moving upward. Another option is to use a cleansing spray made with essentials oils.
As you do this, set an intention to release any lingering negativity and bring in positive, purifying energy.
PRACTICE INTENTIONAL BREATHING
Take a few moments to focus on your breath. Inhale slowly and deeply. Exhale fully and allow your body to soften.
With each breath, invite yourself to become more present, more grounded, and more available to whatever is ready to emerge.
EXPRESS GRATITUDE
Before your session begins, take a moment to acknowledge yourself and your willingness to show up for your own healing and well-being.
A simple moment of gratitude can help shift your attention away from the busyness of life and into a space of openness, appreciation, and self-compassion.
Remember, preparation is not about doing more. It is about creating a gentle bridge between where you have been and the sacred time you are about to enter.
Creating a comfortable environment before your session can help your body relax more fully and allow you to settle into the experience with greater ease. Think of this as preparing a space where you can simply rest, receive, and be present.
WEAR COMFORTABLE CLOTHING
Choose clothing that feels soft, loose, and comfortable. The goal is to wear something that allows you to relax completely without feeling restricted or distracted.
CHOOSE A COMFORTABLE PLACE TO REST
Select a place where you can comfortably remain for the duration of your session. This may be a bed, couch, recliner, yoga mat, or another supportive space where you feel at ease. The most important thing is that your body feels supported and relaxed.
MAKE YOURSELF COMFORTABLE
Small adjustments can make a significant difference in helping your body relax.
There is no perfect position. Listen to your body and make adjustments as needed until you feel comfortable and supported.
SETTLE INTO YOUR SPACE
Before your session begins, take a few slow, intentional breaths.
Inhale gently through your nose and exhale slowly through your mouth. With each breath, allow your body to soften a little more into the surface beneath you. You may even wish to release a deep sigh as a way of letting go of the day.
Once you feel settled, simply allow your breathing to return to its natural rhythm and trust your body to find its own way into rest and relaxation.
A little preparation beforehand can help you settle into your session with greater ease and comfort. Consider gathering anything you may want nearby, such as water, tissues, a journal, a blanket, calming music, crystals, or your session details.
The goal is not to create the perfect environment, but to minimize distractions so you can remain present, relaxed, and fully immersed in the experience.
TAKE CARE OF PHYSICAL NEEDS
Before your session begins, consider using the restroom, filling your water bottle, adjusting your blankets, and taking care of any last-minute needs.
By tending to these simple details ahead of time, you create more space for your body and mind to relax without interruption.
SILENCE NOTIFICATIONS & DEVICES
Consider placing your phone, smartwatch, and other devices on Do Not Disturb.
Creating a quiet and uninterrupted environment helps you disconnect from the demands of daily life and allows you to be more fully present with the experience unfolding before you.
CHOOSE MUSIC OR SILENCE
Because this is a distance healing session, you are welcome to create an environment that feels most supportive for you.
Some people enjoy soft instrumental music, Reiki music, or nature sounds. Others prefer complete silence. Neither is better than the other. Choose whatever helps you feel most relaxed, grounded, and at ease.
TRUST YOUR BREATH
Finally, if strong emotions, sensations, or unexpected experiences arise during the session, remember that your breath is always available to support you.
Take a slow, gentle breath in. Exhale fully and allow your body to soften.
There is nothing you need to force, suppress, or figure out. Simply allow whatever is present to move through you with curiosity, compassion, and trust.
